Design systems specialist at Hathway — converging years of Sketch files into a single Figma database and converting the whole team along the way.

fig. 01 — Hathway

At Hathway I was the design systems specialist — the person responsible for how a fast-moving agency with a deep bench of restaurant and loyalty clients kept its design files sane.

The big project was the migration. Hathway had years of accumulated Sketch files — one per client, per project, per redesign — with symbols, styles, and conventions that drifted a little more every quarter. I helped set up our Figma organization from the ground up, then converged that high volume of Sketch files into a singular Figma database: symbols rebuilt as components with proper architecture, global type and color styles, and a layout system that made each client’s design system legible to anyone who opened it.

Just as important as the files was the team. I helped convert the whole design group from Sketch to Figma — pairing on the new workflows, documenting conventions, and being the person you could ping when a component didn’t behave. By the end, every active client system lived in Figma and every designer worked there daily.

The client work I did on top of that foundation each got its own portfolio post — Dave & Buster’s, Denny’s, Dutch Bros, Blaze Pizza, Red Robin, Pieology, Panda Express, and Arby’s — because those were full app designs in their own right, built on the systems described here.
